Two box-type devices (ET-FMP50/FMP20) and an Intel® SDM specification slot-compatible function board (ET-SBFMP10) exclusively designed for multi-projection

Bracknell, UK. 30th January 2024 – Panasonic Connect Europe today announced the ET-FMP50 Series at ISE 2024, comprising of three media processors that simplify workflows and enhance multi-projection experiences in immersive environments. The series includes two box-type devices (ET-FMP50/FMP20) and an Intel® SDM specification slot-compatible function board (ET-SBFMP10). Exclusively designed for multi-projection, the series features manual or camera-based automatic warping and blending as well as media playback functions, streamlining workflow with various user-friendly features while enhancing reliability within a Panasonic multi-projection ecosystem.

“With integrators building immersive attractions under time and budget constraints, the FMP50 Series addresses the need for simplicity and reliability in complex multi-projector environments, providing a holistic media distribution solution for Panasonic projection ecosystems,” explained Hartmut Kulessa, European Marketing Manager for Visual System Solutions at Panasonic Connect Europe. “It reduces the need for a high-end media server, simplifies cabling and installation complexity, enhances interoperability, and elevates the visual experience for guests.”

Streamlined Workflow to Simplify Every Step

The FMP50 and FMP20 models are a compact form factor for installation near the projectors to reduce cabling, or for use in a standard rack with an optional rack mounting kit. They support a 3840 x 2160p content canvas[1] output via 4x HDMI™. Multiple units can be synced to connect fleets of any scale. The SBFMP10 model inserts into the compatible projector’s Intel® SDM-ready slot to decode 3840 x 2160p signals.

All products offer built-in manual or camera-based automatic geometry adjustment, edge blending, and black level adjustment on flat or curved surfaces. Optimised for seamless compatibility with Panasonic projectors, operators can troubleshoot errors more easily and receive support from a common manufacturer. Compatibility with Panasonic’s Multi Monitoring & Control Software enables remote status checks[2], and both box-type devices complement sustainable Panasonic projection with low power consumption. Content playback can also be automated to a set schedule.

Precision Adjustment for Uncompromising Quality

The FMP50 Series features pixel-based, rather than block-based adjustment, to limit unevenness in blends and a loss in post-adjustment image quality, with precision comparable to the projector’s built-in and software-based adjustment. No licenses are required to access the automated camera-based functions.

The series includes sophisticated free-shape and line-masking capabilities, allowing users to create immersive visual effects with remarkable accuracy. Panasonic Connect plans to issue future firmware updates that will enhance the devices with additional capabilities, such as dome and 3D object mapping and auto colour balance/uniformity calibration. Adjustment is performed on a pixel-by-pixel basis, allowing for more precise and detailed adjustments. As a result, post-adjustment image quality is enhanced, resulting in a smoother finish that accurately expresses fine details.

Smooth and Continuous 4K Playback

With memory ranging from 4TB to 512 GB[3], the Linux-based FMP50 Series supports continuous playback of high-quality video at up to 300 Mbps. All products decode H.265 and H.264 formats, with the FMP50 also supporting the HAP[4] codec. NDI® compatibility enables cost-effective transmission of broadcast quality video signals over LAN.

Looking ahead, Panasonic Connect plans to issue firmware updates for the devices to enable remote operation and predictive maintenance. The company’s vision is to continue simplifying AV systems and workflows for the Location-Based Entertainment (LBE) industry, as well as for fixed installation immersive experiences, by developing new functionality for the system while ensuring that users have the flexibility to update only the features they require.

The FMP50 and FMP20 will be available from Q2 CY2024, and ET-SBFMP10 from Q4 CY2024.
